RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, MONTCALM COUNTY -- Detectives with the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office discovered a large amount of marijuana in the basement of a Vestaburg area home during a follow up investigation.

The suspect, 31-year-old Jesse James Cervantes, from Vestaburg, was arrested on Thursday in his home when the marijuana was found. The marijuana, along with other items in the home, led to a charge of delivery/manufacture of marijuana.

Cervantes is in custody on a $30-thousand bond. He was also charged as a habitual offender because of previous felony convictions.

The charge of delivery and manufacturing carries a maximum of four years in prison and the habitual offender charge allows the courts to double Cervantes’ maximum sentence.
