SOO LOCKS -- The winter storm Thursday and Friday is causing a backup of shipping traffic on the Great Lakes.

As of 2pm Saturday 14 vessels are above the Soo Locks in the St. Mary's River System.   The reason for the delay is extremely low water in the St. Mary's River.

7&4 News is told the recent storm, which brought high winds to the area, pushed the water in Lake Huron to the south end of the lake.  Water levels Friday night were down close to 3 feet,

Some ships may be on hold for six to eight hours.
