A cold front crossing southward today and more systems on the way keeps snow in the forecast this week.

As of Friday morning, the cold front is stretched through the Nothern Lower. It's touched off about an inch of accumulation for parts of the E. U.P. and near the straits overnight. There are scattered snow showers near and south of the front Friday morning.

Throughout the day Friday the cold front will push southward, so we'll see scattered snow showers throughout the day in the lower peninsula. We're hitting highs early on this morning and temperatures will fall throughout the day. The only area the temps will really see much of a rise before falling will be in the Central Lower - being in the mid 30s will ensure you see some wintry mix during the day, and snow showers later as we cool down.

Not a lot of accumulation with these snow showers - maybe an inch for most of us, 1-3" for the Central Lower as another round of light snow returns late tonight.

Looking ahead to the weekend, both days will bring highs around 20 for the E. U.P. to around 30 degrees for the Central Lower. We'll see some sunshine, but also see some scattered light snows Saturday night into early Sunday morning thanks to a weak low pressure/cold front passing through. Your St. Patrick's Day afternoon looks to be relatively calm and sunny.

We're watching a couple systems heading into the upcoming work week - one from the Mississippi Valley and another from the Rockies/plains. These are two systems we'll be watching closely because it not only looks likely they will bring us precipitation, but the track taken will determine what kind of precipiation we get (rain/mix/snow). They look to impact northern Michigan Monday and Tuesday, with lake effect into Wednesday. We'll continue to keep an eye on these two systems and keep you updated.
