LANSING -- Disabled military veterans can receive free hunting and fishing licenses now under a new state law.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says hunters or anglers just have to show proof of eligibility when they buy and use the license.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs defines a disabled veteran as someone permanently and totally disabled as a result of military service and entitled to veteran's benefits at the 100-percent rate for a disability other than blindness, or is rated as individually unemployable.
Licenses will be available through retail agents and online when regularly priced licenses go on sale throughout the year.
Legally blind fishermen who are not disabled veterans can still receive their fishing licenses at senior rates.
