HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP -- Officials say at least 30 students have been suspended from a suburban Detroit high school for recording a version of the "Harlem Shake" Internet dance craze.

Eighteen-year-old Alex Larson tells The Oakland Press of Pontiac that he and several friends at Milford High School in Oakland County's Highland Township were suspended for three to five days. The video, posted on YouTube, got thousands of views.

As participants danced, at least one holds a bird that flaps its wings. Larson says the video was shot after school in an empty classroom.

Kim Root is Director of Communications and Community Relations for Huron Valley Schools. Root says a second video that had racially insensitive portions and was removed from YouTube.
