A snowmobile driver died after his snowmobile rolled over on Burt Lake Friday afternoon.

The Cheboygan County Sheriffs Department said 56-year-old Robert Bennett, from Livonia, was traveling northbound on Burt Lake when he hit a pressure crack during a snowstorm.

Officials say the impact caused the snowmobile to go out of control, rollover and eject the driver.

Bennett was rescued on the lake, and officals say he was transported to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey where he died.

The Cheboygan Sheriff is advising anyone operating vehicles on the lakes that more pressure cracks are forming and they can shift the ice up several inches to several feet.
