Mother of murdered boy jailed on drug charges

EMMET CO. -- The mother of 4-year-old Carnel Chamberlain, who was murdered this past summer near Mt. Pleasant, was arrested for attempting to sell drugs near a school property in Petoskey.

Jamiee Chamberlain, 21, was arrested on Dec. 13th for intent to sell heroin, cocaine and marijuana near school property in Petoskey.

The Petoskey Public Safety Department tells 7&4 News that she was arrested after a "controlled drug buy" at the 200 block of East Mitchell Street.

Chamberlain is the mother of 4-year-old Carnel Chamberlain. The child's charred remains were discovered at a Saginaw Chippewa Indian reservation near Mt. Pleasant in June.

In November, Anthony Bennett, the mother's boyfriend at the time, was indicted on first-degree murder charges for the death of the child.

Chamberlain will be charged with three felonies including; possessing with intent to deliver less than 50 grams of cocaine on or near school property, possessing with intent to deliver less than 50 grams of heroin on or near school property, and possessing with intent to deliver marijuana.

She will make her next court appearance this Friday. She remains in the Emmet County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
