MARQUETTE -- A 50-year-old man from Brimley was arrested for assaulting a federal officer with a sword.

The charge arose from an incident in May when Lyons, a member of the Bay Mills Indian Community, sent text messages that he had attempted to commit suicide.

Bay Mills Tribal Police responded to the emergency call and, with the help of U.S. Border Protection, searched Lyons' resident trying to find him.

Lyons was hiding in a closet and refused to come out and instead threatened officers with a sword. He threw the sword at the officer when he was shot with a taser.

Lyons faced a prison term of up to twenty years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
