M-37 shut down by fiery semi vs. car crash

M-37 is closed following a crash Monday night.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY -- UPDATE as of 4:00am:

The road is now back open with no delays Tuesday morning.  Officials are still not releasing any other details on the accident.

UPDATE as of 10:00pm:

7&4 has learned that the semi involved in the accident was transporting bee hives.  Bee keepers had to be brought in to try and pick up pieces of the hive that were scattered along the road.

First responders also had to try and protect themselves from being stung.

Grand Traverse Sheriff's Deputies are on the scene of a two vehicle crash on M-37 South in Blair Township. A semi and car collided and the semi rolled into the ditch. Both the semi and car caught fire.

M-37 South is currently closed from Hilltop Road to West Blair Townhall Road. Deputies ask that people traveling on M-37 South avoid this area.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours as crews clean up the scene.
