TRAVERSE CITY -- The Grand Traverse County Health Department says a suspected case of fungal meningitis has been reported in Grand Traverse County.

We are told the individual received an injection at Neuromuscular and Rehabilitation Associates in Traverse City, one of four clinics in Michigan to receive a shipment of tainted steroid viles.

The person was evaluated at a Northern Michigan emergency department and released to the care of their physician.

Fungal meningitis is not contagious.

Of the 1500 hundred viles sent to Neuromuscular and Rehabilitation Associates, 800 were administered to patients.

All patients who received the steroid injections in question are being contacted directly by staff via phone and email.

Patients who received similar injections at Munson Medical Center or other area providers are not affected.

The Grand Traverse County Health Department and Munson Medical Center continue to staff a public hotline at 231-935-2199.

There have been 184 cases of fungal menigitis reported nationwide including 14 deaths.
