A ripe combination of low humidity values (under 25%), breezy SW winds, and highs in the 70's Monday have prompted the National Weather Service in Gaylord to issue a Fire Weather Watch for Monday across much of Northern Lower Michigan until 8 p.m.

In this type of set-up, any fires that develop and escape a contained area could rapidly spread and get out of control. Burning is not permitted in most counties today.

The next chance for a touch of rain would be later Tuesday as a cold front arrives. Even then, most storms will be very hit/miss with not a lot of rain.

Fire danger remains high to very high on both sides of the state today.

There were several fires Sunday.  Two large fires in Ogemaw County, one 150 acres and one 311 acres. Both have been contained. There was also a small fire in Oscoda County and one in the Manistee Forest, 14 mile Rd. where a barn was lost.

On Saturday, there was one fire in Lake County.

You can track ongoing wildfire concerns on the U.S. Forest Service fire page.   You can find information about fire conditions on the National Weather Service fire page.   Information on fire concerns in the eastern Upper Peninsula click here.
