Not only has it been warm, but historically warm, with daytime high temperatures shattering records by 10 to 15 degrees in cases.

The remarkable warm weather will continue into at least Thursday before temperatures (while remaining above normal) will cool back into the 50's/low-60's heading into next weekend.

Those warm temperatures, brisk south winds, and lowered humidity will set the stage for increased fire danger. Not to mention, many people are clearing up debris/trees from the recent snowstorm and burning those.

Fire danger on the west side of the state is high and moderate on the east side. No burning permits are being issued all across the Northern Lower Peninsula except Crawford County where folks need to call for information. The only county where there are no restrictions currently is Mackinac County. Luce and Chippewa counties do have some restrictions and you should call ahead if you plan on burning in those counties.

The U.S. Forest Service reported six fires on Saturday and four on Sunday. One fire on Saturday burned 23 acres. Until we get cooler temperatures and also some rainfall, the DNR and US Forest Service is asking for the public's help in not burning.

The graphic below shows where burning is banned.  Brown indicates open debris burning is not permitted anywhere within the county.  Green indicates open burning is permitted and debris fires are allowed if proper precautions are taken. Orange indicates there are burn permit restrictions in effect for that county.  Gray indicates burn permits are not issued electronicallly.
