One son heading home from Iraq .... The other prepares to leave
I have some great news to report on my son in the Army. He will be coming home from Iraq in the coming weeks! Spencer has been stationed North of Baghdad for nearly a year now. As his tour of duty wraps up we are all getting excited for his visit home. After his leave of several weeks he will be off to his new base in Colorado. Can you imagine a more different lifestyle than from Iraq to Colorado?
As Spencer embarks on his new military chapter, my other son, Preston is also in for a change. Preston has been continuing his training for Security Forces in the Marines. While his next step is up to change at a moments notice, the most up-to-date information I have is he may be heading to Afghanistan in the spring.
Through this all, I can just have faith their training, and those serving with them will ensure their safe travels. My boys are never far from my thoughts through out the day, and I've been lucky enough to hear from Preston several times a week while he's training in Virginia. My daughter and I were also able to spend some quality time with him over Christmas. I cherish the time knowing next year he most likely won't be home for the holidays. I hear from Spencer most often through Facebook or on Yahoo Messenger, due to the time difference it's often hit or miss with him. Each day brings new challenges in everyone's lives, just remember when things bring you down there is always someone who is dealing with a worse scenario!!
On another note, my daughter received a giant world map for her bedroom wall this past Christmas. She keeps track of both of her brother's travels. This is one way I am helping her understand what her brothers are up to. Are there any other ways military families are helping children understand what service means? I would appreciate any tips or ideas.
