ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew says the team took care of the critical things it wanted to do this offseason.
So far.
The franchise Mayhew has shaped into a winner still has room for improvement.
He's hoping to find some help, starting with the No. 23 pick overall, in the NFL draft next week. Mayhew insists the team will take the best player available unless he's a quarterback - and wouldn't say much else. He would acknowledge there are "four to seven" players on the team's draft board identified as ideal fits for its selection toward the end of the first round.
Mayhew says running back Jahvid Best has been doing everything at voluntary workouts this week. Best missed much of last year after having concussions.
