EAST LANSING, Mich. - Mark Dantonio has been around great
college football defenses before. He isn't ready to put that label
on Michigan State's top-ranked unit just yet.
The Spartans (4-1, 1-0 Big Ten) shut down Ohio State 10-7 last
week. They are first in the nation in total defense, allowing 173.4
yards per game and are in the top six in three other categories.
The Spartans have allowed more than seven points just once --
the 31-13 loss at Notre Dame that included an 89-yard kickoff
return and an 82-yard interception runback.
The Spartans have the weekend off before a visit from No. 12
Michigan.
