EAST LANSING, MI (AP) --
center Derrick Nix won't be with the team during the Maui
Invitational.
Izzo says Nix will miss it because of personal reasons, adding
he has not been suspended.
The second-ranked Spartans play host Chaminade on Monday and
might match up with No. 12 Kentucky.
Nix had two points and five rebounds combined in Michigan
State's season-opening wins over South Carolina and Eastern
Michigan. He has been on the court for 19 minutes this season,
trailing eight teammates in playing time.
The 6-foot-9, 270-pound Nix started 16 games as a freshman last
season, then almost 20 pounds in the offseason. He was Michigan's
Mr. Basketball two years ago when he was starring at Detroit
Pershing High School.
