Detroit gets first pick this time around
Matt Stafford goes as the first round, number one pick, and he's on the way to join the Lions.
Detroit also had the 20th overall selection, they take tight end Brandon Pettigrew from Oklahoma State.
Detroit also grabs the first player from any Michigan college or university in this year's draft. With the first pick in the 2nd round, and 33rd pick overall Detroit takes Louis Delmas from Western to fill a spot at cornerback.
The Lions selected Wisconsin linebacker DeAndre Levy and Penn State wide receiver Derrick Williams in the third round. Detroit started the day with the first pick of the third round - no. 65 overall - but traded it to the New York Jets for the 76th pick and selections in the fourth and seventh rounds. The Lions used New York's pick to take Levy, a three-year starter at strong-side linebacker for the badgers. With the 82nd pick, acquired last year from Dallas in the Roy Williams trade, they took Derrick Williams, who is expected to see time as a kick returner.
Green Bay Packers kicked off Sunday's second day of the NFL draft by picking Eastern Michigan offensive lineman TJ Lang in the fourth round, 109th overall.
The Lions also pick up Sammie Lee Hill from Stillman. And Michigan man Terrance Taylor is headed to Indy to play for the Colts.
The Tennessee Titans draft Michigan State running back Javon Ringer in the fifth round.
And with the 179th overall pick - the Bengals grab Michigan's Morgan Trent.
For pick 192, the Lions grabbed RB Aaron Brown from TCU.
Detroit will get three more picks, all in the seventh round. To see the Lions' remaining picks, or to check out the rest of the NFL Draft, go to: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2009/tracker
