A half dozen area teams remain in the hunt for a state title in boys soccer, four regional semi-finals on tap Wednesday.
CEDAR SPRINGS -- Just one game Tuesday but it was between two of the best in Division Two, Petoskey taking on Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern at Cedar Springs.
Early in the first half the Hawks pushing forward a couple shots towards goal but the Northmen d-men there to keep it out. Until the Northmen are on the attack; Joe Keede finds Brad Stempke who beats the Hawks goalie to the ball and puts it in, that makes it 1-0 Petoskey nine minutes in. Same score as we go to the second half the Hawks looking for the equalizer; Reed makes the initial save and his teammate Dan Etter makes the great defensive play to keep the score 1-0. The Hawks keep piling on the chances, forcing Reed to make a great diving save. And despite all of their chances the Hawks can't get on the score board as Petoskey holds on for the one to nothing win.
They will face Fruitport on Thursday at Cedar Springs in the regional finals.
