NEW YORK (AP) -- One of baseball's fastest players has wasted no time reaching the Hall of Fame.
Rickey Henderson was selected in his first year of eligibility, named on 94.8 percent of the ballots cast by the Baseball Writer's Associated of American. Henderson is the major league record-holder with 1,406 stolen bases and 2,295 runs scored.
Joining Henderson at Cooperstown this summer will be former Boston slugger Jim Rice, who made it in his final year on the ballot. Rice was chosen on 76.4 percent of the ballots, just above the required 75 percent.
Andre Dawson finished third in the balloting with 361 votes, 44 shy of election.
