PONTIAC, Mich. - Detroit Pistons center Ben Wallace has
been sentenced to a year of probation on misdemeanor charges of
drunken driving and possessing a firearm while under the influence
of alcohol.
The 37-year-old appeared Tuesday morning in Oakland County
Circuit Court in Pontiac. He also must perform community service as
part of his sentence.
Wallace pleaded guilty last month. He was arrested about 3 a.m.
on Sept. 24 in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Township after
officers observed a Cadillac Escalade being driven erratically. An
unloaded pistol was in a backpack.
Officers said Wallace was given a blood-alcohol test and was
above Michigan's legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Wallace helped the Pistons win the 2004 NBA title.
