ANN ARBOR, Mich.  - Michigan will start freshman Trey Burke
in its season opener Friday night against Ferris State.
Normally, a freshman starting at point guard in his first
college game might be a sign of a rebuilding program, but the
18th-ranked Wolverines seem beyond that stage. After winning an
NCAA tournament game last season, Michigan returns an experienced
team that hopes to challenge for the Big Ten title.
The Wolverines also added a couple big-name recruits this week -
another indication that coach John Beilein has Michigan on solid
footing after years of irrelevance at the national level.
The Wolverines open the season at newly renovated Crisler Arena,
which includes new seats and a new high-definition scoreboard.
