ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Detroit Lions general manager Martin
Mayhew says the team has high expectations this year and expects to
compete for its division.
It's a bold statement considering the Lions haven't had a
winning season since 2000 and the division includes defending Super
Bowl champion Green Bay and Chicago.
Still, Mayhew told reporters Friday at the team's practice
facility that the team turned a corner with four straight wins to
end last season and improved in the draft and free agency.
Mayhew says the team has been making good on its mission to
improve its linebackers and secondary.
Players, coaches and managers with the long-struggling team have
talked a lot about winning over the years. Now, he says, it's time
to actually start winning.
