WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Randy Hutchison of Traverse
City has won the Michigan Open.
The 24-year-old Hutchison made a birdie Thursday on the 18th
hole at The Orchards Golf Club in Macomb County's Washington
Township, about 25 miles north of Detroit.
Matt Thompson had birdied Nos. 16 and 17 to take a one-shot
lead, but Hutchison hit a sand wedge to within 2 feet of the final
hole, setting up his birdie. Thompson missed the green with a
7-iron and missed a 7-foot putt that would have saved par.
Hutchison used to golf for Michigan State. He finished with a
2-under 70 in the final round for a total of 16-under 272.
