SEATTLE - Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez
left Monday's game against Seattle in the second inning with a
right groin strain, just two days after first tweaking his groin
against Oakland.
Martinez will be re-evaluated on Tuesday, the Tigers said. He
was replaced by Casper Wells in the top of the second inning.
Martinez capped a long at-bat against Seattle starter Jason
Vargas reaching for an outside pitch and singled to right field.
But Martinez jogged very slowly to first and was just as slow
moving to second base on Brennan Boesch's single to center field.
Manager Jim Leyland and an athletic trainer immediately ran out to
second and Martinez left the game.
Martinez was held out of the lineup on Sunday as a precaution
after injuring his groin Saturday.
