DETROIT - Michigan State has hired a new hockey coach.
Tom Anastos (Uh-nas-tus) resigned as commissioner of the Central
Collegiate Hockey Association on Wednesday to lead the Spartans on
the ice.
Rick Comley retired this year after nine years in charge of the
program, leading it to the 2007 national championship.
Anastos had been CCHA's commissioner since 1998. The native of
Dearborn played for Ron Mason at Michigan State from 1981-85 and
spent one season in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens.
He was 68-37-7 as head coach at the University of
Michigan-Dearborn from 1987-90, then moved on to be an assistant
coach for the Mason-led Spartans.
