MOUNT PLEASANT, MI (AP) --
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - Central Michigan University has
named Dan Enos, a former Michigan State quarterback who went on to
spend four seasons as an assistant coach for the Spartans, as its
new head football coach.
The 41-year-old Enos succeeds former Chippewas head coach Butch
Jones, who was hired in December as Cincinnati's new coach. Jones
replaced Brian Kelly, who came from Central Michigan three years
ago and left for Notre Dame.
Enos spent the past four seasons as an assistant under Mark
Dantonio at Michigan State, serving as running backs coach the past
three seasons after coaching the quarterbacks in 2006. The Dearborn
Edsel Ford High graduate played quarterback at Michigan State from
1987-1990.
"My family and I are very excited about becoming part of the
Central Michigan University family and the Mount Pleasant
community," said Enos, whose appointment at Central Michigan was
announced Tuesday. "I'm looking forward to carrying on the proud
tradition of CMU football into the future."
The Chippewas (12-2) finished the season ranked No. 23 in the
Associated Press poll - the highest finish in the program's history
- after defeating Troy 44-41 in the GMAC Bowl.
"We needed a person with a clear vision and understanding of
how to further develop our championship caliber program for
sustained success," Central Michigan Director of Athletics Dave
Heeke said. "Dan will do that."
Enos followed Dantonio to Michigan State after spending the 2004
and 2005 seasons as the quarterbacks coach on Dantonio's staff at
Cincinnati.
Enos began his coaching career in 1991 as a graduate assistant
under George Perles at Michigan State, where he received a
bachelor's degree in business administration. After three seasons
in East Lansing he went on to assistant coaching positions at
Lakeland College, Northern Michigan, Southern Illinois and Missouri
State.
Enos was quarterbacks coach at Western Michigan from 2000-2002,
then spent the 2003 season as offensive coordinator and
quarterbacks coach at NCAA Division II North Dakota State before
joining Dantonio at Cincinnati.
