PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem says Tiger Woods' indefinite leave doesn't spell "gloom and doom" for golf.
Finchem said Thursday that while the sport's biggest star's absence will hurt and television ratings won't be as strong, the tour will have a prosperous season in 2010. He said that will happen whether Woods is out for two months or all year.
He says Woods only plays about 16 times a year, and the other tournaments have survived. Finchem says the six tournaments that have raised the most money for charity did not have Woods in the field for the last several years.
