ALLEN PARK, MI (AP) --
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions have claimed former
Patriots backup quarterback Kevin O'Connell off waivers.
The move comes after third-stringer Drew Stanton tore knee
cartilage, an injury that requires surgery.
Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Wednesday coaches will set up a
simple package of plays for O'Connell and "see how comfortable he
can get in the next 24 hours."
Detroit ends the preseason at Buffalo on Thursday.
Schwartz says first overall pick Matthew Stafford will start
against the Bills and be relieved after about 25 plays by newly
acquired Brooks Bollinger if Daunte Culpepper can't play.
Culpepper cut his foot Saturday and needed stitches.
