MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The new NFL year starts at 11 p.m. on Thursday night, and the Minnesota Vikings have plenty of money to spend.
Whether the free agent pool has enough players worthy of those dollars remains to be seen.
The Vikings have needs at quarterback, right tackle and defensive back. The Houston Chronicle has reported that the Texans have agreed to ship backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels to the Vikings for a fourth-round draft pick. The Vikings have declined to comment because any move cannot be made official until late Thursday night.
The team is also in negotiations to bring veteran center Matt Birk back. Birk has spent his entire career here and will become a free agent if a deal is not reached by the start of the new fiscal year.
