EAST LANSING -- The Cadillac Vikings are heading to the State Championship for the first time since 1927.

Students and community members sent the team off with cheers and well wishes this morning at Cadillac High School.

Classes are being dismissed early so students and teachers can make their way to the Breslin Center in East Lansing to watch their Vikings compete in the State Semi-finals. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m against Detroit Country Day.

Coach Jeff McDonald tells 7&4 News that this is the first time Cadillac made it this far into the tournament since 1927.

"We've been close the last couple years so it's nice to get over that hump," McDonald said.

McDonald credits the students, staff and community for being supportive at school and creating an exciting environment.

"We're going down there to get the experience and try to remember we have a game at 6 p.m. tonight," McDonald said.
