NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- With spring officially arriving at 7:02 Eastern Time this morning, it certainly doesn't look or feel like it across Northern Michigan.

We are in the midst of much more of a winter weather pattern with cold west-northwest winds crossing the open waters of Lakes Superior/Michigan leading to localized heavy lake effect snow in certain area. The highest totals we could find as of Wednesday morning were around the Wellston and Interlochen areas where a foot of more of snow has fallen. Many locations in the snowbelts of the Eastern U.P. and Northwest Lower Michigan have seen 4-10" of snow since Monday.

This pattern will remain in place through at least Thursday evening before a combination of drier air and moderating temperatures puts an end to the snow by midday Friday. The majority of snow showers will occur Wednesday afternoon/evening with several more inches coming down in the typical locations downwind of the Great Lakes. Temperatures remain chilly with mid/upper-20's (normal highs should be in the low/mid-40's this time of year).

While temperatures do remain below normal through the next week, it will warm somewhat with upper-30's expected for the weekend. Sunshine returns Saturday as well.
