Employee accused of stealing from family business

ISABELLA COUNTY -- The Isabella County Sheriff's Department has charged Stephanie Lynn Lyon, 34, of Mount Pleasant  with embezzlement, forgery and fraud.

Investigators say Lyon worked for Smith and Son's Meat Packing in Mount Pleasant and stole $25,835 from the business over a period of three years.

The Morning Sun reports Lyon was hired through a local accounting firm. Shewas not an employee but performed accounting duties under contract for Smith and Sons, a custom meat packer and butcher shop.

According to reports in 2010, Lyon double-signed and cashed 27 checks, as well as producing and forging an additional check.

In 2011, deputies say  there were 21 check that she double-signed for and cashed, as well as seven that were produced and forged.

In 2012 the report says Lyon double-signed and cashed 15 checks, as well as two that were produced and forged.

Lyon was arraigned and posted bond.
