A quick-moving Alberta clipper will passed through the straits Saturday night, bringing snow showers across the area and high winds-causing hazardous road conditions.
Low pressure will exit the region Sunday, but lake effect snow showers will continue, adding inches through Sunday night.
Looking at rain and wintry mix from this afternoon (some locations already saw snow this morning and afternoon) changing over to all snow tonight. Snow accumulations will range from 1-4", more for the lake effect locations, overnight, and another 1-4" possible tomorrow. Road conditions will deteriorate quickly tonight, and be careful with falling temps creating icy roads from the earlier rain.
The WNW wind will be steady at 10-35mph, and gust near 50mph. That will create drifts and wind chills below zero, for some it may feel around -15. We have gale warnings in effect for all of N MI and could see waves at 10-35ft.
A winter storm warning for Chippewa, Charlevoix, Leelanau, Antrim, Otsego, Kalkaska, and Crawford counties was in effect until 11am Sun due to 3-7" of snowfall, and high winds creating low visibilities and drifting snow. Lake effect locations can expect closer to 8" in accumulation, if not a bit more, by Sunday evening.
Luce county is under a lake effect snow warning until 7am Monday due to 6-12" of snowfall by Sun night and high winds.
Mackinac, Emmet, Cheboygan, Montmorency, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Oscoda, Manistee, Wexford, Missaukee, and Roscommon were under a winter weather advisory until 11am Sun due to 2-4" of snowfall, low visibilities, and high winds.
Mason, Lake, Osceola, and Clare counties are under a wind advisory until 6am Sunday due to west winds at 25-30mph with gusts near 50mph.
High winds like this can make driving difficult, cause small tree branches to be blown down, and possibly produce power outages. Add in the snow, and you can expect low visibilites (less than a mile is expected), drifting, and slick roads. Stay safe out there N MI!
