WEXFORD CO. -- The Cadillac Police Department is sad to report the Bo the police dog has been put to rest.
Police say Bo was humanely put to sleep today after a short battle with a crippling illness that left her unable to walk and care for herself.
She was taken out of service last week where she remained comfortable at home with her current handler, Officer Lance Taylor.
Bo, a German Shepherd, was born in 2002 just outside of Amsterdam. She was flown to the U.S. where her training was completed and then put into police service at the Cadillac Police Department.
Bo was in service in Cadillac since 2003. She was responsible for the location of hundreds of illicit drug finds, the tracking of criminals during crimes in progress, finding lost children and adults and locating hard to find evidence.
In addition to her duties as a crime fighter, Bo also participated in dozens of public demonstrations at schools and events.
Bo will be laid to rest beside former Cadillac PD dogs "North" and "Grando" at the Cadillac Police Training Facility.
They are currently seeking donations from the community to fund a replacement for Bo.
