TRAVERSE CITY -- Veterans Day is a day to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and Sunday thousands of people took time to honor and thank the brave men and women who put their lives on the line, to protect our freedom.

In northern Michigan, veterans lined the Grandview Parkway in Traverse City to honor those who served our country. The Michigan Patriot Guard and other service-members held flags and stood along the road near at Clinch Park.

This was the third annual flag line and lasted for several hours Sunday afternoon. Organizers say it's a unique event that leaves a lasting impact on many who are driving on the parkway.

Nearby, the Open Space in Traverse City was filled with more than 200 memorial markers, honoring the local men and women who have lost their lives defending our country. The display was set-up by the Veterans for Peace, a group that's dedicated to educating the public about the ultimate cost of war.
