CHEBOYGAN -- Members of the Cheboygan Sportsman's Club will be able to shoot at their range after a judge ruled in their favor.

The County's Civil Council tells 7&4 News that a Circuit Court Judge made his ruling today.

The club sued the County Prosecutor after he issued an opinion that there could not be any shooting at the range due to its proximity to a home.

That opinion was issued after the homeowner found a stray bullet in his driveway.

A statute under the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act stipulates that a firearm cannot be discharged within 150 yards of a home.

Today the judge agreed with the Prosecutor's interpretation of that statute, but ruled that the sports shooting range pre-empts it, which means the members can continue to shoot.
