DETROIT- The Detroit Tigers have won six of eight games since Austin Jackson got off the disabled list.
It doesn't seem to be a coincidence.
The speedy center fielder is tough to replace because he covers a lot of ground in the outfield. The improved hitter is also valuable in the team's leadoff spot. Jackson's batting average is up, his power has increased and striking out is no longer a big problem at the plate.
Detroit manager Jim Leyland reminds reporters that the 25-year-old Jackson is a developing player. He has grown up fast, though, playing regularly for the Tigers for a third straight season since they acquired him from the New York Yankees as part of the Curtis Granderson trade.
