ALLEN PARK, Mich.  - The Detroit Lions have hit the ground running in their first of 10 organized team workouts.

Detroit lost only one key player from last season's playoff team and was missing just a handful of other players Monday for voluntary workouts.

Defensive end Cliff Avril missed the workout as expected because he is still hoping to sign a long-term contract with the team. Wide receiver Titus Young, linebackers Stephen Tulloch and DeAndre Levy along with safety Amari Spievey also were not there with their teammates.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz says Tulloch is resting knee tendinitis. He would only say the team was aware of the reasons that led to each person missing the voluntary workout.
