The cooler than usual spring and summer are part of the reason why less pumpkins are growing in farmers' fields.
Most people are buying their Halloween pumpkins this time of the year but a nationwide shortage has local growers worried they could take financial losses. Owners of a farm market in Leelanau County harvested their pumpkins this past weekend. They say there are still some left in the fields that are continuing to ripen, but overall numbers are down.
