GRAND TRAVERSE CO. (AP) -- William Mouser has been selected as the new Grand Traverse County Road Commissioner.

Mouser's appointment was decided at a special meeting of the Grand Traverse County Commissioners to interview applicants for the position.

The position replaces James Maitland who has served 12 years on the Road Commission. His term ends at the end of the year.

As noted in his letter to the Board, Mouser says, if selected, he would "work diligently to insure that the citizens of Grand Traverse County receive the greatest value and return on investment for their tax dollars spent on this vital part of our county infrastructure."

Mouser has extensive experience in the construction industry as well as administratively as an estimator and project manager.

Mouser's appointment was a 8 to 0 vote with Commissioner Rob Hentschel not present, as he was also an applicant for the position.

The six-year term will begin January 1, 2013.
