NEWAYGO COUNTY -- Two people are dead and one is in critical condition after a crash where high speeds appear to be a factor.

According to the Newaygo County Sheriff's Office, the car, driven by 24-year-old Deverin Simons of Newaygo, was traveling north on Elm Avenue when he lost control, left the road and hit multiple trees. Simons was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front-seat passenger, 27-year-old Richie Aguilar of Fremont was taken to Spectrum Health and pronounced dead.

The back-seat passenger, identified as 24-year-old Michael Shortsle of Fremont was transported to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids and is in critical condition.
