GRAYLING -- Homeowner and neighbors hold suspect in business theft until deputies arrive to make an arrest in Crawford County.

The Crawford County Sheriff says the investigation began around 3pm Friday when police were called to the Kmart department store in Grayling after a large amount of jewelry was stolen.

Moments after the report of the stolen jewelry, deputies were also called to a Frederick Twp. home after homeowners noticed a  suspicious vehicle parked nearby.  The caller said there was a man and woman inside the car along with a large bag of jewelry.

Grayling Police responded to Kmart while Sheriffs Deputies responded to the home with the suspicious vehicle.  Before investigators arrived at the home, the man inside the car tried to run away, but the homeowner and neighbors held him until deputies arrived.

Both the male and female subject were taken into custody along with a large amount of jewelry believed to be taken from Kmart. This case remains under investigation and could possibly be related to other recent robberies in surrounding communities.

The Crawford County Sheriffs Office was assisted in this case by the Grayling Police Department, a Michigan DNR Conservation Officer, the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and several concerned citizens, who's actions helped bring this case to a quick conclusion.

Sheriff Wakefield reminds citizens that confronting suspicious subjects such as in this case can be very dangerous. Although the actions of these citizens was very much appreciated, Showing caution, being observant and getting a detailed description to authorities can make all the difference.
