TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. -- An Antrim County man was awarded Priority Health's Senior Volunteer Impact Award for his dedication to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Bill Harris has served as a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters since 2006 as a mentor, board member, committee chair, recruiter and fundraiser.
"Bill has helped hundreds of children in Grand Traverse and Antrim Counties; no one is more deserving of this award," said Cecilia Chesney, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters in a press release Tuesday.
Recipients are chosen based on their ability to inspire and motivate others and their exceptional contributions.
For the first time this year, community members could cast their votes online for the top 10 nominees selected in each region. The online votes along with the votes of an independent group of community members were tallied to select a winner for the top 10 in each region. More than 100 nominations were received this year.
"We could not be more proud of Bill's accomplishments and support of our organization," Chesney said, "Most importantly, his friendship as a mentor to Dylan, and his guidance and expertise during some challenging years for the agency."
