ROCHESTER HILLS, MICH. (AP) -- A Rochester Hills businesswoman has created a lasting marker for 225 trees honoring the memory of about 3,000 people who died during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and in a field near Shanksville, Pa.

Ann Mayle's designed Tree Hugger tags, which are basically bracelets that fit around trees, spring-loaded to be able to grow with the limb. Tags dot the swamp white oaks at Ground Zero.

The tags mean no cutting into and damaging the bark. The 9-inch coil can stretch to 30 inches. Each tree's plaque is marked with letters and numbers so memorial staff can keep track of them.

Mayle, who runs A Family Tree from her basement, tells the Detroit Free Press being part of the project is an honor.
