Arrest made in Tart Trail assault case

TRAVERSE CITY -- Update: The Sheriff tells 7&4 News the suspect turned himself in to deputies Monday when he found out he had an arrest warrant. He will be charged with attempted unlawful imprisonment and assault charges Tuesday.

Those who use the Tart Trail in Traverse City can feel a little safer.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office tells 7&4 News that they now have identified the man who attacked a woman on the trail and tried to drag her into the woods.
Sheriff Tom Bensley confirmed late Monday afternoon that a suspect has been arrested and is now is police custody.
Last Sunday, a woman walking her dog on the Boardman Lake Trail says a man approached her from behind, placed her in a bear hug, and tried to force her into a wooded area. She fought back and got away unharmed.
The Michigan State Police worked with the victim on a sketch of the subject. Sheriff's investigators spent several days put ting together a line-up and following up on several tips.
Monday morning a warrant was issued for the suspect's arrest. He is now being questioned by detectives and we should know his name Tuesday.
