Construction of the 20-foot tall fireplace along Bridge Street was started earlier this month.
CHARLEVOIX -- Charlevoix city leaders and residents will meet Wednesday evening to discuss a bayside project that sparked a fiery debate.
The special meeting with the City Commission, the Planning Commission and the public was scheduled after a growing concern that the fireplace project was pushed through too quickly.
"I've looked at this view almost everyday of my life, and when they did the reconstruction they tore down buildings to make it a little better, and now they're sticking something right back up there again? I don't like that," said Charlevoix resident Bob Bergmann.
Construction of the 20-foot tall fireplace along Bridge Street was started earlier this month, but has since been put on hold while a scaled back plan is discussed.
The cost of construction is being covered by donation money, but the fireplace will still cost the city nearly 7-thousand-dollars a year in gas bills.
The special meeting is scheduled for 7pm. 7&4 News will be there and bring you all the developments on 7&4 News at Eleven.
