Three people were rescued by the Coast Guard on Whitefish Bay Monday afternoon.
The three people were aboard a disabled and adrift boat near Rivermouth Campground. The Mackinaw, a 240-foot heavy ice-breaking cutter launched a rescue crew to get on the scene faster. The people aboard the boat waved down the rescue crew as they approached.
The boaters were about two hours from where they left, near Tahquamenon River.
A storm came in during the rescue and the crew realized that the boaters could not make it to shore so they brought the three people aboard the cutter and decided to use the cutter's crane to lift the boat onto the cutter's deck.
The boaters were in good health and good spirits, and were provided dinner and warm clothing from the crew of the Mackinaw. They were safely dropped off at the pier of the Soo Locks.
