MANISTEE COUNTY -- A 61 year-old Benzie County man is dead, after he drowned while trying to recover his boat Saturday morning.

Michigan State Police say it happened just before 8:00am Saturday morning on Glovers Lake in Manistee County.

Witnesses reported seeing 61 year-old Kevin Bromstead calling for help in the water but they were unable to get to him and he disappeared into the lake.

Authorities say Bromstead was attempting to retrieve his boat which had floated away from shore. The Manistee County Dive Team was brought in and his body was recovered in about 10 feet of water.
