GAYLORD -- Police are looking for vandals who broke and knocked over dozens of grave markers in Gaylord's Bagley Cemetery on Monday.
Chief Fitzgerald from the Gaylord Police Department says they are still investigating what happened, but they know that someone went through and tipped over around 80 percent of the headstones in the cemetery.
The Police Department is working with the Department of Public Works to put them back up and asses the damage.
The Gaylord Herald-Times reports that some of the grave stones date back to the late-1800's. Grave markers of veterans, decorated with American flats were also damaged or destroyed, according the the Herald-Times.
The vandals face charges of malicious destruction of personal property as well as significant restitution for damages and repairs, the Herald-Times reports.
Police are hoping they can find the culprit, but don't have any leads right now. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Gaylord Police Department at (989) 732-1777.
The Bagley Cemetery is an older cemetery located on the corner of S. Otsego and S. Wisconsin.
