As high school students are wrapping up their school years, many are starting to think about summer employment. But with a challenging economy, part time jobs are difficult to find. Michigan Works! has some advice for teens looking to rise above the competition and score that perfect summer job.
Spread the word about your job search: Michigan Works! suggests using social media as well as spreading word through friends and family, your neighborhood or church. If people know you are eager to work, they're likely to spread the word for you. Employers are looking for people who are anxious to work.
Be proactive: Show that you're willing to do the work of finding a job. Knowing where to look is the first step.
Hold yourself accountable: Always be setting goals for yourself, both short and long term. Weekly and daily goals are helpful. Saying "I will fill out ___ applications this week" or "I will speak with ___ employers tomorrow" can make a big difference.
These are just some of the helpful tips Michigan Works! has to offer. You can find the Michigan Works! Service Center nearest you by clicking here.
